So you want to start a web hosting business.....
Well what can you expect?
--To put in 100+ hours a week for at least the first few years
--To dump tons of $$$ in advertising and branding with slow ROI.
--Spammers, scammers, fraudsters oh my!
--Stiff competition, they've been around longer, they have more money, they have a staff, they have a client base, they have a complete website with integrated backend scripts and accounting systems. You have -- a home-made site or template, a notepad w/ pen or pencil, and a reseller account.
What do I need?
--Determination, knowledge, a business plan and lots of resources such as forums like this one.
--Love for the industry because you sure aren't doing it for the money!
--To realize it's not an easy living, an easy buck, a quick buck.
--A good alarm clock, lots of coffee, and some type of steady income for capitol.
--An understanding of the technology
--Lots of free time
--Business experience (will help you big time).
To realize that you aren't going to hook an ebay special up to your phone company DSL line and charge people $25 a month to host websites with no email, no control panel, no technical skill.
--To realize that a good host isn't the one with the lowest prices and the coolest flash template.
--To do research and lots of it.
That is enough for now. But let me add that if you just want to make some quick money and you like working with computers just get a job at Office max or Best buy or something.
