I am not an expert of security but have some vague knowledge of basic security procedures.
Obviously you make sure you have a good firewall and virus software installed on your computer and or server. It is best to change the file names when installing this software. In other words change Programfiles/firewall.exe to something like Programfiles/dz2four.exe.
Most viruses now come with code to knock out any virus and firewall software and are programmed to go straight into the files they are normally called and installed into. So if you keep the name the same the code will be able to attempt to knock it out. Most viruses are not that advanced to scan the entire drive to identify the security software, so if you change the name your software will remain protected to some degree.
A lot of common scripts can also be exploited by spammers, especially cgi form to mail scripts, so ensure you clients change the names of the script to cut down on the amount of spam mail being sent into the servers. This will save on bandwidth.
Most experts agree that virus and firewall software alone is not enough, you should also invest some money in stand alone anti trojan software like td3 and software that scans for registry changes and that may monitor processes to stop code knocking out your other security software.
You should also make regular back ups of all your data.
This is very basic security as my knowledge does not go any further on the matter.
