Is there a web hosting company that supports protected folders on Windows/IIS?

there are loads, i take it you mean password protected?

A simple directory search for a windows host, and just email off a few of them. you'll probably get a good response on more than you think.

Quite right. After I have searched Google, and asked some of them, quite many of them answered positivelly.
They have different solutions, though. On Apache this is easy, since .htaccess is the standard. But on IIS it looks like every hosting company have their own way to solve this. Is there something that is almost like a standard solution for IIS?

although there are fairly standard ways to do it from a hosts point of view, the way in which they allow you to do it, or request it is by no means standard. I can't think of a control panel that has it in built of the top of my head.
