Does It Mean Anything If Your Host Is Far Away From You?
Is vicinity to your host important for you?

I don't think that vicinity is not an essential factor any longer as hosts start offering hosting from different datacenters, I mean global hosting offers from companies like Marblehost.com who offer USA- and UK-based hosting accounts.

Hello,
Usually it's not so important where are you, it's important from where are your website visitors.
Regards

Nope, not any longer, as the things are getting more and more globalized and going for one provider I can choose between different server location he offers, like it's offered in Utropicmedia.net reseller plans:
USA-, Europe- or Asia-based servers.

It shouldn't actually, and even pricing is equal in USA- and UK-based Marblehost.com datacenter.

I think it depends on the company itself for thew first time.
If the company provides their services in a quality way and their network is stable, it doesn't matter where their datacenter is located. I'm talking about SolidHost.com company.

I think it's worth going for Solidhost.com deals if your site visitors are in Europe mostly, stable host with high-end solutions and pro-active support.

I suppose the location is important only if you are going to use colo-service, else - there is weak matter of where the server is located. Surely, Iа you are having problems and need to call to provider - local server would be cheaper to reach. Anyway, if the provider is reliable - server location doesn't matter at all!

You can choose between datacenter location not only for shared, but dedicated services as well, say www.Exmasters.com offer a choice between USA and UK location.

One thing to bear in mind is that the location of your hosting may play a part in your search engine listings (dependent on other factors).
For example it may help to be hosting in the UK if your target audience is also based in UK.

To my mind the location is not important. For example, my brother uses Hqhost.net services, although it is USA company and he lives in Canada. The main point is that he has never faced problems with this company.
