Free Hosting Yes or No?

We are kicking around the idea of offering free web hosting.. a small account requiring a certain amount of activity in our forums to get some traffic coming in.

We will never go paid hosting, which actually works out better becuase the customer will have to go to another host which they can return to us and vote on.

We are seriously considering moving on this pretty soon, so we are looking for some comments... pros / cons....

Offering free web-hosting you could no only get more traffic coming in, but earn from advertising placed on customer’s site.

free hosting is a great idea their is alot of people out there looking for free hosts and if you can keep it up without no problems you will soon fill all your spaces.

I should have updated this thread a little while back. We are NOT offering free webhosting.
We are keeping just with rating/reviews/forums...

Our new site should be launching in the next couple of weeks and we are looking for moderators, hosts to be interviewed & hosts that are interested in being part of our yearly host giveaways...

Honestly, I've tried the little or no change for hosting work coupled with supposed referals or advertising. It never panned out; the time and effort involved far exceeded the tiny return of exposure.

You're right--there's a ton of folks who will love free servie. unfortunately, they are also the people who will be unreasonable about service and charges for real work. This is not the customer base you want, if you expect to make this your profession. Professionals charge for their services.
