Need some help / ideas

I am looking to start a personal family history website. Ideally, the site would allow members of my family to: access, upload, view documents regarding our family history; chat with each other, keep blogs, and email eachother. I would like all the information on the site protected so that only registered individuals can access it. I would prefer not to worry about disk space, and bandwidth should not be a problem.
My question is: What types of features should i be looking for? Are there any Hosts that specialize in this kind of thing? Are there any other suggestions that you have that I might not have though of?

I think most hosts could handle this no problem. How much disk space would you require for photos, video, etc?

Since it would be only family then i believe the bandwidth would not be an issue. Are you seeking advice on hosting or programming such a site?
