What is the best way to optimize meta tags, etc. for placement?

We want to get placed even better on Yahoo.com, etc...but what is the trick? (besides paying the $299 fee to Yahoo which is still not guaranteed)

The Basics...

The most important thing is the title of a page when looking for search engine positioning. Place your most important keywords in your title.

For example:
Wrong = Bill and Sons limited
Right = Cheap DVD Films for delivery in uk

So... by looking at this example, we see that "cheap dvd films" is the most important keyword. Always place your most important keywords in your title.

Repeat this keyword in the following,
Meta Description Tag
Keyword Tag
Inside the html page - in text or even better - in a h1, h2, h3 heading.

That is the very basics of search engine placement, however to achieve a good rank for a website with lots of competition, much more is needed than the above.

There are several underground techniques used by search engine placement experts that will boost a position. Many of the most experienced search engine placement companies do not know about these.

A good search engine optimization expert should always look towards the future when designing a page, think of how you would gain the best search results if you were designing the search engine.

Even with knowing all the secrets, there is never any garauntee that your site will list first, usually not even the programmers of the search engine could know this. If you get lucky the programming behind the search engine will pick your site to list above others with the same level of ranking.

For example:
If there are 300 websites which rank around the same, they all cant appear in number 1 position. So they must be some random decision by the search engine to pick 1 to list.

Thats my bit for today, enjoy.

I am not sure with yahoo, i do know that they used results from google if their database does not find anything for a search.

There used to be a tool somewhere for finding old expired domain names that are still listed in the yahoo directory - much cheaper than paying the $299 if you can find one which matches your website and just set up a redirect.

Anyone know what that tool was or if it is still available?

Google i think is the best search engine, although its been acting strange recently since they changed some things.
