No Audio Device?
I just got a new computer on the cheap running a intel celeron.
I can't get the sound to work on it. I went to control panel / sounds and audio devices... i cannot adjust any of the sound volumes and it says "No Audio Device".
My new computer was second hand and was formatted before i recieved it, no instructions with it. I was thinking that the driver might not be installed for the sound?
I am using windows xp pro, how can i find out what audio device i have on the computer and if the driver is installed?
If it isnt a driver problem, then does this mean i have no audio device?
I am sure i do...
When i went to hardware devices under sound and audio i got the following,
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Media Control Devices
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Video Codecs
Device status for all of them under properties says that the device is working properly.
Could this be just a driver problem?
Does anyone know how to find the correct driver i might need to install?

failing that take the cover off the computer and look at the motherboard if it doesnt have a sound card in one of the slots it will be onboard sound is probably
ac97 sound.
As i say if you can give me some details of the computer i can probably find them for you.

Is there some place in windows that i can find out the complete spec and if a sound card is installed.. without taking the computer cover off?

Similar problem driving me nuts
I get the "No Audio Device" message in Sounds BUT
Audio does work in Media player, Real Player and Hauppauge TV I cant adjust volume in software, no system sounds and doesnt recognise microphone are some of the symptoms I am sufferring from.
I have a Gigabyte K8NS Pro motherboard which was supplied with an additional sound card which I removed (dont ask everything was working fine with other board) I have looked evrywhere and people have suggestedloading drivers, making sure winows has started audio and PnP all to no avail. The more I try the worse its getting and I now havw 2 Legacy Audio drivers. I really am a bit reluctant to reload XP as a clean install, I just hope that someone out there can help. Here is my device manager listing
Audio Codecs
Hauppauge WinTV Nova USB
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Audio Drivers (thats right twice)
Legacy Video capture Devices
Media Control Devices
MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Devices
NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio Codec Interface
Standard Game Port
Video Codecs
There isnt an AC97 Driver though it said it installed it and trying to run nVidea's Soundstorm comes back with driver not found message.
Thanks

that's a K8NS Pro not a K8NS Pro-939 right?
dunno whether you have tried this
have a look
K8NS Pro drivers download page:
http://uk.giga-byte.com/Motherboard...-K8NS%20Pro.htm
before you install this driver, make sure you have uninstalled every other driver that you have for the sound device.

hi guys,
I have the same problem as Administrator but I have a Gigabyte P4 Titan 667 (GA-8ST667) motherboard.
I have tried Compaq's advice but to no avail, the ALC650 is just not being detected by Windows XP (SP2)!
I have checked the Device settings and it is indicating that the Realtek AC'97 is working properly. Also checked the BIOS and AC'97 is enabled.
It was working fine with the old driver but now I'm not sure what it was! I have lost the installation CD.
It just stopped working when I was trying to correct a recording problem. I went to update the driver through windows. That didn't work so I rolled back the old one but still no sound!
Is there anything else I can do before buying a stand-alone sound card? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi dangerduckie,
i've checked your motherboard and it has the AC97 built-in sound card.
have you tried downloading and installing realtek ALC650 drivers for xp
goto;
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...8&Software=True
and select the "Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP/2003 for Driver only. " download and then install.
i gave this a go to fix my problem but it did not work for me. i think i've fried my sound card!!
it may work for you however.
