Same problem - NO SOUND OR AUDIO
!!! HELP !!! ~ For some reason, after I installed either SP2 or one of the other critical fixes, my audio devices stopped working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the hardware in device manager (no luck), formatted C: and reinstalled XP with no luck also. The audio device appears just fine in the Device Manager, but in the Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel I kept getting the "No Audio Devices" message. All options in this control panel item were grayed out. I've even done an XP "System Restore" to a time before I installed the Windows Update. This worked fine and rolled back the changes ... but still the same nonsense with the Audio remains. When rebooting the computer I do hear the initial beep, but that is it! I am also unable to even access the system volume and receive the following message:
Error Message: (when attempting to adjust the system volume)
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware and then click Add Hardware.

Same Problem
I just replaced my old soundcard in my Hewlett Packard Windows XP with a new Creative Sound Blaster 24-bit Sound Card. I installed the sound card with the CD I received from Creative. That seemed to go okay but my computer still says that no audio device is installed. I'm downloading some drivers to see if that will help. If it doesn't, my parents will probably be mad and think that there was never anything wrong with the old sound card. I installed some drivers with the last sound card and it didn't work, so I uninstalled them. Maybe re-installing the drivers will help.
I downloaded the Realtek Media Player(RtlRack).
I rearranged some plugs on the computer.
No good. Any help?

ok as per usual n*CENSORED WORD*CENSORED WORD*CENSORED WORD of the previously discussed solutions have helped me. They rarely do, that would just be to easy.
So i have a similar problem, usually my audio device does not work, it just plain doesn't show up. Sometimes (like once or twice), i'll start up my laptop and the audio device will load properly, but its a rare occasion. Like the others my device manager says all the devices are working properly.
I tried downloading the realtek drivers, they installed fine as far as i know, however it did not fix it.
I tried going to Toshiba's website, downloaded the correct drivers installed them, however it just said Warning: Drivers were not installed (no reason nothing).
I tried going into the Comp*CENSORED WORD*CENSORED WORD*CENSORED WORDnt Services and making sure the service was started correctly...it was.
So i'm really all out of options, i don tknow what it could be. This has just recently happed to me, i'm in italy and dont have much help.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100. The Toshiba has a detailed list of the specs.
If anybody could help me i would be much obliged.
Ciao bonna serra,
Gratsi
