Windows xp start up user

Hi,
I just recently got a new computer with windows xp. Everything is fine execpt that when i start up i have to select my username before it will finish. I am the only user of my pc, so this is not necessary. Its very time consuming having to do this and it means i cannot turn the computer on and leave it to fire up alone. I have to be there to select the username.

The strange thing is that it was not doing that at first, it just started all of a sudden.

Does anyone know how i can get rid of that setting so that it just loads up without me having to select a user?

There doesn't appear to be a setting in there to turn it off apart from clicking off use the welcome screen.

When i did this it shut down in a different way and on start up i had the username appear, this time asking for a password.

I don't even know the password because this is a second hand computer, so i just pressed enter. It fired up, i went back to change the use welcome screen back but i was promted about offline files. I am not sure what they mean by that but i had to disable offline files to recheck the welcome screen.

Now its the same as before.. i have to click on my username to get in. Like i said before, it was not originally doing this. I did download all the latest updates from windows, that might have been what changed it?

Any idea how to make it just fire up without having to choose the username? I am the only user of this computer so its not needed.

got me puzzled why its doing that.

when i shut my machine down in xp i just click shut down i have the log off box next to it but i dont use this.

so then when it shuts down when it restarts it just comes straight into windows i dont get any log on screen or password.
