spring cleaning a computer

my wife complained about her computer not running properly so being the good husband i am (lol) i gave her a replacement and decided to strip hers down.

my wife smokes, when i opened up her machine a pentium 4 and took off the shield that covers the cpu i got a shock.

the amount of dust that was stuck to the fans and to the cpu cooling fins was amazing it required complete removal i am not suprised it wasnt running properly.

It seems to be back to normal now im using it as i type......it just shows you need to clean it out inside periodically.

When you think your machine is not performing as it should just check your fans etc you might be suprised.

just thought i would share that with you all

then turn the unit off n blow a CO2 charge u can buy at just about any comp store thru the fan n venting ports on the case, it'll knock off most of the dustbunnies and send em to the bottom of the case where they can cause very little harm, the reason dust causes a prob is it drives up the heat,so if ya can move it away from the devices attempting to cool the unit, then fewer probs occur,or tell us what kind of seal is on the case, most can be circumvented except tamper-proof screws
