Question Building a computer

In a few months i am looking to purchase a new computer since the one i currently use is very old ( it doesn't even have a usb port ). In fact the computer i am currently using is a pentium 1, 200mhz 4gb hard disc. It's constantly crashing due to low memory resources.

I should have some money in a few months and want to build a real bad ass computer.

I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse. I just need the computer.
What i am looking for is to use the best combination of motherboard, memory, hard disc , graphics card, rewritable dvd drive, ect.

My budget is $3000.

Any suggestions?

So going down the Intel road

what you want the PC For
Ie Hard Drive Space (downloading Dumping etc)
Ram amount (editing Music Arts Movies normaly take a lot of ram)
Video card (how demanding are you going to be)
Sound (5.1 or 7.1)

As for montherboard has to be a intel chipset base all the reast are rubbish

Do you want any other cards in your system TV Capture card
Modem lol (usb firewire etc)

how many monitors do you wish
i have two myself find it nice to surf and program in

I have recently built my computer and found great deals to build a powerful cpu but still be on the economic side.

I know that i7 is the cream of the crop today but an i5 with a k multiplier can be very well a choice for you as it provides you with over clocking options that can take you up to par with a stock i7, but you will still lose out on an i7 with a k multiplier.

but you still spend for additional cooling, not to mention you'll be consuming more electricity due to overclocking. if you can afford it, just get i7. you won't be disappointed in the long run.

I am using i5 with 4GB RAM and I am quite comfortable with it. I don't have to switch to i7 unless this one breaks.

At $3000, you can already get a high-end PC, not to mention you'll gonna build it yourself. I suggest 7200RPM HD for faster data read-write. Maybe a Gigabyte mother board. 4GD to 8GB RAM. I hope this helps.
