no sound

Hallo,

i have a problem with my sound!
i just installed windows xp and now i can't listen mp3-files or the sound of videos(neither from the internet nor from cds).
it says "bad direct sounddriver. please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.ERROR code 88780078.

i had a look in my device manager and it says that all the devices(audio device, legacy audio devices...)are running properly.

i also checked my sound and audio device properties and it says "no audio device" when i click volume.i set my sound scheme to windows default(thats what a read in another forum).but still no sound.

i think i need an audio code, but i don't know what kind of ???
i tried to download the audio codec from this link :

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...8&Software=True
(do i have to use page 1,2 or 3 ???)

i got this pc from a friend and he was listening to music with it so i'm pretty sure, that there is a soundcard.how can i find out what soundcard i have?

i hope my description is not too bad.it's not my language

this is the profile for my pc:

C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\(Dirtydarsh).html

please help me.i'm dying if i can't listen to music!!!

No sound device

I tried to figure out how to post a new thread but I can not find a link to do so.
I decided to reply on this thread since I am having a similiar problem
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and when I go to control panel under sound devices it states I have no sound device. I then go to device manager and everything looks ok and it states everything is working properly. Can someone please help me figure out why I have no sound on my computer.

Thanks
