no audio device after system recovery
i have a packard bell imedia 5106 (s/n010862120526)
after carrying out a system recovery i have lost sound.
i have an on board soundcard (AC-link 3d game enhanced audio) my system indicates it is working properly.
i have updated the driver.
i have checked that the AC'97 soundcard is on auto in BIOs (only 2 choices auto or disable)

i also have a conflict yellow exclamation mark in device manager against communications port (COM 4) which i can't seem to resolve.

i am losing hope.......i've tried other web forums but without any success.
please help!..................basic step by step actions....no jargon please.
