I posted in another forum for help for my website and I got a rude response.

Hi, I put a post up asking for help/new partners for my website in another forum called webmasters- talk.com and I would like everyone to know the rude response I got.
This is the response I got from the forum host:
F"ck you asshole your kicked off the forum never come back I hate your g"ts you p"g

Go f"ck yourself

TimSchroeder
http://webmaster-talk.com

I find this to be a highly offensive response considering I was only asking for help and or new partners to help me with my site. Has anyone else experienced this kind of attitude from this website? As a result I am now reluctant to ask for any help from any website when I really need it.
This is what I posted and I don't believe I should of gotten such a rude response considering I was only asking for help:

Hi, I started this website in January 2004 and I really need help. I left my partner in charge and he hasn't put up a web page in 3 months. This site has proven to be way too much work for 1 person to constantly update. I am faced with 2 options; (1) find new people/partners to make the site succeed and profitable or (2) shut the site and put thousands of hours of work to rest.
I believe this site could make lots of money with the right dedicated people on board. If anyone is interested in a ground floor opportunity to try and make this site succeed, I'm all ears. More details can be seen by visiting the site at http://mywebsite.com(witheld name cause i now feel alienated)
Thank You.
Do you think my post deserved such a response when I'm only asking for help?
sincerely,
Mike5

You goto see the funny side. Perhaps there is a valid reason? Maybe you were mistaken for someone else who had earlier caused problems on the forums or perhaps someone is personating the forum Administrator to cause trouble.

Was there something wrong with your site you advertised? Maybe it had adult content and caused offence or something?

Did you recieve that reply in an actual thread? If so - can we see the thread itself?

I would say it was an unfair response, if there are no other elements involved.

Actually it appears the forums are down for maintenance, maybe they were hacked and someone went around having a laugh with all the members?

no the reply was in my email from the site host

My site has no porn and is only related to video games...no porn..no pop ups..no adult content..and lots of 14 year old kids go there. See for yourself http://www.gamerkingdom.com
I was only asking for help/new partners
I never posted there before either.
I took the liberty of forwarding the message to the true host that supplies the bandwith and the software for that site.

But was it the forum administrator that said that to you or just another user?

The fact that the forum is currently offline suggests they may have had some trouble with someone - even if it did appear to be the administrator telling you this.

I just can't see the site owner saying that to a person, even if there was reason for it then they would likely just ban your ip address but would not do that.

Webmaster talk is pretty established and i would be very surprised to see the site owners speaking to their users like this, it just doesn't make sense.

They may have been hacked or impersonated.

This is more likely, i feel.

Ah i see.. the reply was in an email from the site owner...

To be perfectly honest it is really easy to spoof someones email address. I could send you an email that would appear to come from any other website.

For example: billgates@microsoft.com or anything i wanted.

You would have to look through the email headers and discover the ip addresses used by the mail client to be able to trace it and know where exactly it came from. The from field is just very easily spoofed and i would take it with a pinch of salt.

Off subject - you are welcome to post your request for help in this forum in the freelance work section.

It was from the site administrator..Tim shroder and I got it in my email. I doubt the site was comprimised...I have been up for 8 months now and Never have I been hacked/compromised. If your running the latest firewall/virus software and keep everything up to date it is very unlikely that this would happen. Considering I can no longer log into the site and my user name is no longer valid leads me to believe that the actuall administrator did this...when I tried to email him back it bounced my email back to me..so i couldnt even reply to his offensive email.
I doubt his bandwidth supplier will tolerate this and it wouldnt surprise me if the site gets shut down by their host. (at least if I were the bandwith host I would definitively shut him down for this).
I will let you know the response I get from his isp when they get back to me for I have already reported it by following the abuse link.
If they have been hacked I will also let you know as soon as I know more.

The email would bounce back to you because the email was spoofed.

You don't have to do any hacking to spoof an email, it is very simple and there are websites which give you free tools to do it for pranks.

I am not an expert for tracing emails so i would not be able to help you there.

But to prove that the email was spoofed, try this.

Try to reply to the spoofed email again - it will bounce, this is because it was spoofed.

Now compose a new email and type in webmaster@webmaster-talk.com and tell them about your problems - it won't bounce this time because your emails are not being bounced by them.

Spoofed emails are almost always bounced when trying to reply because they don't exist, although there are some ways to make them go to someone elses account also.

Thanks

Thanks. I believe I already did that in this post. I don't want to be looked at as a spammer when I only need help. Once is enuf.
As well I have nothing to offer in return...only a share of the website if we ever make money... and since 97% of websites don't make money I don't have high expectations and I believe a website can only be as good as the people who run it. I have a few ideas for an affilliate program, but I need someone knowledgeable in pearl cgi. Running a successfull video game website is like making a video game from scratch..it takes a team effort and no 1 person can do it alone. Perhaps if I find the right internet guru that can generate revenue then everyone stands a chance of getting paid for their work then the site could be pulling in 5 million a year like gamespot does... but that will all depend on the right people and how much effort they are willing to make. If 20 people can pull this off, then they all stand to make alot of money. But there are no guarantees..Nothing is a sure thing. We can only hope things will work out..and time itself will tell. Unfortunately I don't have the deep pockets to start throwing money into this site, So in essense I'm offering a share. Everyone , like me will be taking a gamble and I don't expect people to be working full time at this( unless of course some money starts rolling in). The success of the site may be in numbers...if 100 people made lets say 1 page a week then the site would get 5200 new pages a year...It's a numbers thing.. the more pages the more links to the site..and this site requires constant amount of updating. Who knows where the site will be in a years time. I already have links from good video game websites and periodically get free review copies sent to me from the publishers (as well as prize copies), but theres still a long way to go yet.

Can i ask why you have to sign up to view the forums? This is a bad move to make, since none of the search engine spiders will be able to visit the forums either and that means none of the forum pages will be indexed by the search engines.

Anyhow.. i wish you luck for the future.

heres an update about that nasty message

I got an email from that website today apologizing for the nasty email. The message is as follows:
Dear mike5,

I regret to inform you that our forums administration control panel was
compromised today.

The nasty email or private message you may have received was sent by an
unauthorized user and not from any of the staff of Webmaster-Talk

For more information please see this announcement:
http://www.webmaster-talk.com/showthread.php?t=15321

Please accept our sincere apologies.

Tim Schroeder
http://www.webmaster-talk.com

Well it apears that you were right..or their just covering their asses after I sent the email to their bandwith host. Port 80 has become very vulnerable lately..even my isp has begun blocking it (because of server hijacking and email spam)..weve been running our server on port 8090 lately and luckily we have avoided these kinds of problems.

I felt so alienated thinking I had done something wrong. Well it apears I wasnt the only person to get the message. The Internet is such a wonderfull tool. People should learn to respect it...not abuse it. I'm still going to stay away from their forum though, the fact that someone was able to get into their email database doesnt impress me. Who knows how much spam i'm going to get from them now. My last email address that I dumped was getting 10,000 spams a month because of sites like this that didnt protect their email database.
