.com is it really neccessary?

Is a dot com really neccessary to have a successful website or business on the web. Do you think .net's and .biz.. etc.. are just as effective?

I think that if you want more traffic you should use.com. SInce a lot of people who are just surfing etc and are trying to find something by typing in addresses, they will type a .com much faster then a .net. Example:

You look for used cars:

you look at www.usedcars.com

you aren't starting out with www.usedcars.net or usedcars.biz.

That's why I think it would be good to get a .com.

I have always thought that a .com looks more professional in general.

wel yeah you are kind of right, but that's because organizations buy them.

but something what most organizations do is just see what kinda business they are and then make the domain regarding that question.

like .biz or .net

And then only things what are related to the country and stuff will have there own of .nl or .de etc!

as i think a .biz may be a good alternative... and .org is for a non-commercial organisations? so as i think, it's better to use .com/.biz...

well the .com are the ones which have been the longest so people memorize better. ohh yeah blah blah DOT Com, I do have sites which aren't .com, I prefer to stay away from all others (.net, .cc ,etc..) but it does not mean you can't have a successful site or whatever with them.

No doubt people have a general concept that companies usually have their .com.

However, I would think it is more on your marketing skill and I have seen many .net/.biz that can work as great.

However, I wouldn't expect a fashion store to use a .net as mentioned by the others.

There are also some companies to do the unusual as to use .to or etc. I don't see any wrong in terms of using such a domain.

I have both uomo-donna.com and uomo-donnna.net under my name and both have great visitor hits with the right form of advertisment.

So the choice is yours.

Hope this might help.

.com advice

You are always going to get more traffic with .com name. Partly because the American market is the biggest in the world, partly because when people try and guess a name they will try the .com name first (often before searching). A dot net or org can be just as successful if it's increidibly catchy, although it won't be worth as much unless you have traffic behind your name.

Hello frogee...
Acronyms like .com,.biz,.net are all good and familiar. It is choosed based on their business process. For example somebody wants to do business with mobile phones then he can choose (.mobi).
Likewise to create yourself your desired domain name thewebpole.com is one of the good site. Here internationalized domain names are also can be created.Cost is reliable in this website.
